"Used to" , "Would" and "were/was always " for Past Habits and States

“Used to” is used:

to describe past habits in contrast with the present.

to talk about past states (also in contrast with the present)

• I used to love watching films.
• I used to live, used to love, used to like, used to feel...

“Would” is used: to describe past habits typical of a person or repeated events in the past but not states.

We can also use the past continuous with the frequency adverb “always” to describe a past habitual action.

• I was always fixing things in the garage.
